In The Studio – Maui Sunset

Welcome to another installment of our blog series “In The Studio” bringing you in shop details as projects are on the table being constructed. This week its a beautiful fusion of land and ocean, enjoy!

Padilla Designs collaborated with George Rixey to design and engineer a custom entrance gate that shares a Maui sunset theme with current lines, sun rays and mountain ranges all layered together in three harmonizing panels.

The first stage of our creation process is planning and designing the project, then cutting and laying out the pieces to be re-arranged and shaped to fit perfectly together. Once they are in place the next phase is welding the pieces together, this is where the project really starts to take shape. Defining pieces are added and the whole slowly comes together, but we are just getting started!

Next the projects need to be prepped for patina. They are taken to a blasting room where they are sand blasted and ready to be stained.

-The ocean and current lines are copper with a faux finish of greens and blues

-The sun is copper with brass sun-rays

-Mountain range is copper and will be finished with bronze and green patina

-The frame  of this magnificent gate will be aluminum tubing with a bronze powder coat finish.

This project is in the process of completion, so stay tuned for updates to find out what the finished product looks like!
