Aloha! This weeks Padilla Designs blog series “In The Studio” features a collaboration with Sterling Development for Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. This blog series is dedicated to bringing you sneak peeks of in shop projects and the processes that take place in our fabrication shop. Enjoy!
Padilla Designs is at it again! Right now in the Padilla Designs fabrication shop we are working on six paired custom brass bathroom privacy doors for the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. First, we received twelve fabricated fusion glass panels from Pizzo Glass Art. Then, Padilla Designs artists went to work, making a brass frame that must fit perfectly around each of the panels.
Square brass tubing was measured, cut to size, and then coated with patina to turn the brass dark brown. Once the frame was dry and ready to be fit to the fusion glass panels, a protective solid glass cover was set over the fusion glass panels.
The process of sliding the panels into the brass frame took patience and teamwork. Once together and tightly fit the frame was then TIG-welded together (this is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld).
Finishing touches are being made to the privacy doors and they should be ready to be installed soon.
Stay tuned to the blog see the finished project!
